So we've entered the 2018 Tankwa Trek. Looks hard as nails. Eagerly, yet nervously, looking forward.

Anyone out there that have done this? Any insights to share?

I was lucky enough to do it this year. Brutal but absolutely incredible route! Wonderful hospitality as well- you'll put on weight from the great food.

Get comfortable riding:

  • in heat
  • on rocky terrain
  • hills

Thanks for the reply.

I've been in that neck of the woods in December and have experienced the heat. I believe Feb is even hotter. Will be visiting Holla Trails in December which should also help for some heat conditioning. Different type of heat, but still...

Been eyeing that Merino monster climb. It does look like a monster indeed.

Also entered . Rumor has it that it is the most difficult 3 day stage race in SA. Hope all is rideable .

Everything is ridable, except if you are from a roady background and not yet used to a bit of technical riding here or there on a mtb, then just walk it.

Going down the Merino Monster was the hardest and most exhaustive part of the 3 days for me. So take it easy going down there, hold onto your dentures, it’s very bumpy.

If you put in your 8 hours a week you will be fine and absolutely love it! The food and the water points is top notch.

How does the race work, one village and race from there every day?

My Seeding is wrong , SAS index of 90 but it is actually 43.

How is the rest of your seedings  ?

I tend to agree... according to the seeding list on Tankwa website my seeding is 33 and i'm in the A batch.... yes, A batch. That must surely be a mistake.

Just saw mine, can only be "A" in my dreams. Will be a quick demotion from back to C.

Just out of interest...which is now the correct site address for SAS?

The one I Used to use doesn't work anymore...the one I found, doesn't seem to be spitting out the correct data....I'm confused

GLuvsMtb, Feb 07 2018 08:15

I seem to have an A batch seeding [emoji855]. Not sure how that happened. This is going to be interesting.

Hey everyone....have a team e try but no partner no more. Who is keen to join. Spontaneous, flex and able?
Give me a shout asap. Shot

GLuvsMtb, Feb 08 2018 08:31

I am nervous as hell for tomorrow’s stage. It promises to be a long hard day out. So far I am very impressed. Registration was a breeze, the shirt and hoodie in the goodie bag with all the Biogen stuffs are all things we can use, dinner was great, the race village is set under shady Oaks on lush green lawn and there is twin ply toilet paper [emoji16].

The online footage of this race was a poor as Attakwas. Hoping Sunday live feed will be better.

The area is struggling with connectivity after a recent fire. New fibre cables are being laid to try to get Sunday's coverage working.
