DIRECTIONS TO THE VENUE FROM CAPE TOWN
From the Cape Town via N2:

The distance from the Cape Town City Bowl via the N2 is around 75km and should take just over an hour to get there. Get onto the N2 and continue through Somerset West and over Sir Lowry's Pass. Continue past Peregrine Farm Stall for another 4km then turn left, cross over the railway line and through the security boom and about 1km further down, turn left towards the tasting rooms, parking and SALT restaurant then at the T-junction turn right and continue through the gate along the gravel road, past the amphitheater to the parking area.

marcmorley78, Aug 19 2019 04:47

Anyone seen info about the routes? I'm not fit enough to manage the 66k route, but don't wanna ride 40k of jeep track...

Rouxenator, Aug 19 2019 08:22

I'm more concerned about the potential rain.... or wind....

This will be my 4th time on the long route.

Last years long route.

Is this race e-bike friendly

Can I charge my battery after the race so I can do a second loop - will there be charging stations

Also is there any prizes for ebike racers

at that price ill give it a miss, day permit and ride with friends with wine tasting at the end

you won't be able to do the long route over Groenlandberg on a day permit.

Rouxenator, Aug 20 2019 11:36

The price was very reasonable, for me at least, I entered the Ride and got the discount too. Comparing that to what you get on this event the value is insanely good.

Come to think of it the price is so good it feels like they are paying us to do it.

Groenlandberg, yes will be another permit if i remember.

Hamstring, Aug 20 2019 01:56

i think we paid again at the foot of Groenlandberg.

Yes, but to get from Cluver/Oak Valley to Groenlandberg on the race route you are crossing over other farms.
The race route crosses over Mara, Molteno and IIRC Applegarth on the dam side of the road, then it goes up a route similar to yours up Nuweberg, over Groenlandberg, around the back and into Cluver again.
But on a day permit ride you could always ride out the OV gate and follow tar roads.

Rouxenator, Aug 20 2019 03:27

If I'm not mistaken, they have to pay the full day permit fee to Groenlandberg for every rider on the 66km.

soconnor, Aug 21 2019 09:00

I agree the price of race entry fees are getting expensive but then again everything seems to be going up in price and when one starts adding associated expenses like the cost of getting to and from the venue pre and post race refreshments it starts getting prohibitively expensive for the average person to afford especially if you take the family along.I used to do plenty of races in a season but no more I will rather pay for a day permit.

Rouxenator, Aug 21 2019 09:06

Remember that the proceeds from these events get's put back into cycling.

soconnor, Aug 21 2019 09:42

A very small percentage.

Jbr, Aug 21 2019 11:22

babse, Aug 21 2019 11:30

Last year with some extreme conditions predicted, the event was postponed for a few months...

hope the weather holds out this time!

Rouxenator, Aug 21 2019 02:11

A very small percentage.

Still something. So enter events and grow cycling.

Hilton., Aug 23 2019 04:46

Weather is looking wet for Sunday, 70% chance of rain.

emme, Aug 24 2019 06:29

Light rain lunchtime?

LeoKnight, Aug 25 2019 03:00

Did the shorter route (40km) today and really enjoyed the trails out there, they were very good.

But there seems to have been a few people that had some trouble staying on their bikes, hope you heal up soon.

Jbr, Aug 25 2019 04:41

I suffered big time on the 66k the last climb was horrible, with the wind in the face... I was told it would be easier than the trailseeker in wellington last week, it didn't feel like it, but this time I took some time to look at the landscapes and man it was beautiful !

I also managed to fall around the end, one of the fresh berms they seem to have built for the weekend wasn't quite hard enough and collapsed under my front wheel :( All good though !
