Fox announces lightweight 32 Step-Cast fork

Starting at 1,355g, the 32 Step- Cast (SC) fork is our lightest cross- country fork ever. Optimized for 100 mm of travel, the Step-Cast lower leg design and narrow crown spacing save weight while the 32 mm upper tubes maintain FOX ride quality.

32 SC Chassis Design

Fox 32 SC Overlay.jpg
The distinct shape of the lower leg design isn’t just for looks. The 32 Step-Cast (SC) chassis uses a narrow stance to save weight and the step design makes room for the spokes and brake rotor. The 32 SC features 32 mm upper tubes and ample bushing overlap for a quality ride and the hollowed out lower legs provide even more weight savings.
  • 120mm upper tube spacing (32 model uses 130mm)
  • Max tire size 2.3”
  • Max rotor size: 27.5”- 180mm, 29” – 203mm
  • Rake: 27.5” – 44mm, 29” – 44mm or 51mm
Production fork weights (165mm steerer tube with star nut installed and Kabolt axle):
  • 32 SC 27.5 100mm = 1,355g - 225g less than MY16 32
  • 32 SC 29 100mm = 1,360g - 255g less than MY16 32

4th Generation Fit Damper

FOX Isolated Technology: Our patented closed cartridge system now in its fourth generation, was first developed in 2004

Superior damping performance

  • Upgraded to our proven FIT RC2 10mm shaft architecture
  • 10mm shaft provides more oil flow through the base valve
  • Dual circuit rebound allows more controlled return from hard hits and quicker recovery from successive impacts
  • 32 SC-specific cartridge design and damping tune
FIT4 Damper Adjuster Options

3-position on-the-fly adjustment – Open, Medium, Firm

Fine tuning in Open mode with wide range low-speed compression adjuster – 22 clicks

32-step-cast-cross-section.jpg
Forks with optional remote will retain fine tuning in Open mode with wide range low-speed compression adjuster – 22 clicks

FIT Grip

Inspired from moto, the new GRIP damper uses our FIT sealed cartridge technology combined with a coil-sprung, independent floating piston.

GRIP allows excess oil to purge through specially designed ports at the top of the damper to maintain consistent damping and increase durability.

Performance Series forks provide Open, Medium, and Firm modes with additional micro-adjust between settings.

Float Air Spring

Self-equalizing positive/negative air spring

  • Utilizes our patented FLOAT shock transfer port technology, first introduced in our circa 1999 FLOAT shock
  • Smoother performance with reduced friction
  • Less vibration feedback through handlebar
Highly tunable with air volume spacers
  • Adjust the amount of mid stroke and bottom out resistance

That smaller package is where the large majority of the half-pound weight savings come from, but it's also obvious that some torsional rigidity is going to be lost compared to the previous year's 32. How much? Fox doesn't want to share the exact numbers with me, but they did say that the 32 Step-Cast is comparable to a 2015 32 when talking about equal fore and aft forces, but with slightly less torsional rigidity.

As a weight weenie... so much want.

Orange though... :cursing:

Looks like the thinner lower bottom legs is making a return after a decade, ala Marzocchi XC100 style.

Starting to make a RS-1 look like value for money

Pikey, Apr 05 2016 09:55

Now with added noddle-ness, just in case the existing one was too stiff for you...

if it's got the new fit 4 damper it will be proper stiff. So stiff you will think it's a rigid. If you can feel yours hands after the ride that is.

If you are a race weight race snake why not!

if it works i suppose so. But so far the new fox factory 32 is the worst R15k I have ever spent .

I would hope the step-cast is better.

Have you not insisted on a warranty replacement yet?

Narrower profile and step at the bottom

Oh and only accept a max 2.3 tyre

Nope. Just even more weight weenie. No difference in damping except for introducing a lower end one

Looks like technically it's the same thing - (ie the problems you're having with yours would be exactly the same as on this one.

The Step-Cast has a slightly narrower crown (stanchions are closer together), different lowers (The lowers transition from a tube to a "beam" lower down to accommodate the brake disk and hub, and the arch is not a "half circle" , but slightly fuller "circle" to get around the tyre and still line up with the narrower crown.

So functionally (in terms of the suspension) it's exactly the same, but with less material in the lowers.

but would presume ppl who want to use this fork wouldn't want to run anything bigger than 2.2. But it's still limiting.

Exactly. It's an out and out XC racing fork. So the guys using this are not going to be running 2.4 tyres with chunky tread patterns. Also this fork is max 100mm, not the like the "normal" version.

its probably still cr@p 🙈. Not that I'm pi$$ed or anything 😇

How do they compare to Chunky grips??

same if not better feel ... have them on my stumpy and have had no issues.

I like the fact that you can mix and match grip and end cap colours :)

So now we have hi-jacked this thread properly
