Trek unveils all-new Supercaliber, an XC race bike in a category of its own

Trek introduced the all-new Supercaliber today, a radical new XC race bike with a unique, structural suspension design that changes the game for cross-country mountain bike racing.

Supercaliber delivers the light weight and efficiency of a hardtail and the control and traction of a full suspension bike. It's the perfect solution for XC racers who want to hammer on climbs and sprints, and also keep speed through the rough stuff and rip descents.

Trek Factory Racing XC has raced Supercaliber on the World Cup circuit this year and will continue to compete aboard this game-changing bike for the remainder of the season and beyond.

'This has been that dream bike that I always wanted, but never existed until now,' said Trek Factory Racing's Jolanda Neff. 'I'll be racing nothing else from now on.'

IsoStrut: an innovation in speed

Trek Supercaliber Studio_.jpg
Supercaliber gets its magic from IsoStrut, a structural, frame-integrated shock created in partnership with FOX suspension engineers that provides 60 mm of damped, tuneable rear travel.

IsoStrut is encased in a structural stanchion that prevents twisting, flex and deflection. This unique design gives the bike the exceptional pedalling efficiency and removes the need for excess suspension linkages – along with the weight and excess lateral motion that typically come with them.

Built to race

Supercaliber will be available in four complete models. Each is equipped with an OCLV Mountain Carbon frame with Straight Shot down tube and Knock Block, a SRAM 1x12 drivetrain (including a SRAM AXS build on the highest end model in the family) and Bontrager Kovee carbon wheels with Rapid Drive hub internals for nearly instant engagement when you stomp on the pedals.

Like all Bontrager carbon wheels, Kovee MTB wheels are backed by the Bontrager Carbon Care Wheel Loyalty Programme. If they're damaged within the first two years of ownership, we'll replace or repair them for free.

All Supercaliber models also feature 100 mm of front travel, 29˝ wheels on all frame sizes for the best in momentum-preserving speed and room to carry two water bottles in the main triangle.

Supercaliber will be rolling into Trek retailers from now until November, depending on the market, and will also be available for customisation through Project One.

6cm probably provides a usable range of 3-4cm which the pressure of the tire and flexibility of the rear seat stays could easily achieve.

I’d be surprised if this matches the speed of a well sorted hardtail, or the marathon flexibility of a 100mm soft tail.

Always good to see innovation - this doesn’t seem like it though , more a change to proprietary equipment for changes sake.

YOu won't set up the Supercaliber like you set up a 100mm travel bike. Sag is literally about 5mm, just enough the break the stiction. This bike is all about power transfer and efficiency, not about magic carpet ride. You probably want a topFuel if you're looking for comfort. The Supercaliber is where the next gen of XCO bikes will be.

except the STP was a genuine softtail. The rear shock was just there to damp the return spring of the carbon chain stays..

This is more like Trek's version of a 20th anniversary edition of the Original 2000 MY Scalpel

Just put a Ocho Lefty on and I'am sold

so the rear shock/strut will only be serviced by trek I assume...

or until the sealkits are available to the public

The Goldilocks ad was very cool.

I wish I'd got a dollar for every bike that over the years has promised "the best of both worlds" or "all the race and trail bike you'll ever need" or "pedals like a hardtail, descends like a trail bike".

Has Jolanda won a WC race on it yet?

1 - Womens XCO is probably the most exciting form of MTB there is to watch
2 - Jolanda is explosive and already shown her capability - if i was a betting man, she will win on this bike, potentially the whole 2020 season
3 - Dont write off Emily Batty - she has had a torred 2019 season, but could easily return to 2018 form

the flex in those stays is cringeworthy , like I get THAT"S HOW IT WORKS but holy balls that doens't look like it'll take much more than A season to break
