Epic Bike Check: Ariane Lüthi's Kross Earth Team Edition

Ariane Lüthi joined Kross Racing Team earlier this year after the dissolution of the Team Spur team. Kross is a Polish bike company with their pro team racing on the Earth Team Edition frame. Lüthi is riding with teammate Maja Włoszczowska as Team KROSS-SPUR Racing in the 2019 Absa Cape Epic.

The Kross Factory Racing team ride on DT Swiss suspension. The front suspension is a OPM O.D.L 100 Race fork in the Gold Standard colourway. Controlling the single pivot rear suspension is a R 535 One shock with trunnion mounting and metric measurements. Both the fork and shock are controlled simultaneously by a DT Swiss Two-In-One lockout lever.

Shimano's latest XTR M9100 has been in short supply on shop floors but the professional athletes at the Cape Epic seem to have managed to source the goods. Lüthi's bike is kitted with a full XTR 12-speed groupset (including brakes) featuring a 10-51T spread on the cassette. She has elected to ride with a 34 tooth chainring.

The non-drive side crank arm has been modified by INPEAK to include a power meter, in a similar fashion as Stages. Like Kross, INPEAK is also based in Poland.

Lüthi's controls include a carbon stem and handlebar pairing from FSA's K-Force range. The KS Lev Ci dropper seatpost also boasts a carbon fibre mast. Lüthi rolls on a set of DT Swiss XRC 1200 Spline carbon wheels and Mitas Scylla tyres.

Holding the scale in a field, Ariane's bike weighed in at fairly good 11.8 kilograms. Race-ready Cape Epic bikes are never as light as you might expect from the shop floor. In this case, the bike includes pedals, a healthy dose of sealant, number board, and spares like a tube, pump, and Slug Plug.

Cool bike

Heavier than I thought it would be Taking of around 100 grams for tube and maybe 300 for pump and plug it’s still 11,4 kg ? That’s not super heavy , but still a good kg more than some of the other racing snakes’s bike

Agree, not light.

Also no space for second bottle...

DirtyDan, Mar 25 2019 06:27

You guys may be overlooking that your comparison race bikes don’t have droppers.
Racing is not all about how light a bike is...

They were probably running heavier tires with more sealant too... without those and the dropper the bike would be lighter but it's apparent the weight is not everything.

I'd like to know what the thing on the right hand brake line is, looks like 2 pop rivets?

Looks like a chain link wrapped to the hose with electrical tape.
