SA Gravity Calendar for 2018

For the first time in almost a decade, 2018 sees the emergence of a Gravity MTB working group across the three major provinces, Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

The exponential global growth of disciplines such as Enduro in the last 5 years has seen a large influx of riders into Gravity-orientated disciplines which were once feared and largely misunderstood by most mountain bikers.

The SA Gravity working group has therefore been working hard to put together a seamless Gravity season for 2018 with Local, Regional and National events being held around the country to give our riders the largest exposure possible to varying terrains and venues.

PLEASE NOTE: this calendar does not include single stand-alone Enduro events or other festival based gravity events that are not linked to local, regional or national series.

No cascades and Helderberg this year?

I personally don't like the early SA Champs date, but the reasons behind it probably make sense. Would've preferred it in July, but then again there is always next year!

It was initially set for July the 22nd in accordance with the UCI international date set for National Champs rounds ... but as this falls directly after 2 World Cups in Europe (8th and 15th July) and just before the World Cup in Mont St Anne (11 August).

It was therefore an executive decision by the SA Gravity team around the country to make Champs early before the first World Cup round in Europe.

This was done to reduce the travel needed for riders racing the World Cups to have to come back to SA from Europe and then to go back to Canada all in 2 weeks.

WP was supposed to have Enduro SA Champs - but having chatted to Harry and his team they asked if they could rather give it to another province this year so that they can focus on hosting a brilliant Regional series in their first year.

So we have offered it to Karkloof/Howick, who were interested. But this needs to be finalised still.

So WP regional series... what does that mean? Sorry I'm not really clued up about how things are arranged.
