DT SWISS relaunches with a fresh new hand

Renown for precision engineering, DT SWISS brings high-quality bicycle components to the ever-evolving cycling world with an emphasis on reliability and an unforgettable riding experience.

Previously available mostly only on off the shelf built bikes in SA, the brand will now be available as stand-alone components to meet the standards of even the most discerning of riders who like to upgrade their precious steeds for the ultimate ride.

In an era where buying a new bike, every season is a reality for only a few, the availability of quality components for strategic upgrades has become ever more enticing.

Even more so important is having the moving parts of your carbon or aluminium steed to be reliable. If you have a stable of steeds, lucky you.

DT Swiss Hubs

DT Swiss have been perfecting the artful design of their components for over 20 years.

The result is some of the most reliable hubs on the market and a ratchet system that has that Swiss flare of precision. Not entirely sure what a ratchet is? It's simply the DT Swiss design team's take on a forward drive system, with fewer and more robust parts. With a service interval of up to a year which can be done by hand, its a system that has fewer maintenance costs involved due to the press fit assembly of the hubs that allow service work to be done in minutes and makes the hub convertible into many drop out standards.

The reason behind the high-performance feel is that all the teeth of the ratchets engage simultaneously every time. The non-contact seal system and high precision assembly guarantee that all the rider’s energy is transformed into forward motion.

There is also an option to upgrade the ratchet system for higher engagements, so your upgrades are upgradeable. Upgrade ratchet sets are available in 36T and the super premium 54T which will give you that zzzzzzz sound. Who doesn’t like a zzzzzzz sound?

Locally available will be the more cost-effective, yet still premium feel, 350 hubs and the higher end 240s hubs, both of which make use of renowned DT Swiss ratchet internals and both available in boost options.

The 350 rear hub comes in at a very respectable weight with the 240S coming in approximately +-50grams lighter. Upgrading this to the 54T ratchet set will shave even more grams off the overall weight.

Also available will be an ever increasing, wide range of spare parts to service the current and new DT SWISS hubs in SA. Spares from freehub bodies to innovative thru axles are already available and have some very clever designs behind the precision.

Spokes & Nipples

DT SWISS first began their engineering quest creating some of the most sought-after spokes in the global market. Decades later and they have innovated and developed spokes using a method unique to DT SWISS that is still quite hush hush. Couple that with the fact that all the spokes are still made and tested with Swiss precision in Switzerland. Rare, but true.

Select spokes and nipples will be available locally to cater for the custom wheel build market and discerning riders as well as servicing the existing market with replacement spokes.

The first half of the year will see an emphasis on bringing these hubs and spokes to the SA market by import and distribution company, Get Stoked, with a dedicated support team to oversee the brand. They aim to expand the offering later this year to bring wheelsets and rims as well as service road riding with these premium components.

Further entrenching the brand in our local market, DT SWISS suspension will be handled by Robbie Powell at RBC, one of the countries leading experts in suspension and an accredited DT SWISS wheel builder.

Used DT hubs before and they were rock solid with a lovely zzzzzzz'ing sound too :P!

Dirt easy to open and clean.

Agreed - fantastic products.

Up until now, very little in the way of spares available - hopefully this will change. Also, hopefully the pricing will be in line with international markets and we won't end up getting screwed as is currently the case with many other manufactures
