Lyne Components launches alloy wheelset range

Lyne Components is known for their dropper posts and MTB components that won’t break the bank. They have now expanded their product range to include performance alloy wheelsets.

Our main aim when developing our new wheelsets was to find the right balance between weight, width and durability for each wheelset and their intended use. The demands of modern mountain bikers are far higher than before due to the level at which riders are pushing their equipment and the technicality of race courses and trails. Riders are going faster, riding longer and pushing their limits and we wanted to offer wheels that could meet these demands and encourage confidence.

Pulse 25 Wheelset

LYNE-wheels-16.jpg

The Pulse 25 Wheelset strikes the right balance between weight width and durability to improve the ride of your XC/Marathon bike.

Weigth vs Width

SPECS.jpg

Efficiency is key when referring to XC/Marathon wheels, this is achieved by keeping weight down and distributing mass as close to the centre of the wheel as possible. Wide rims have shown to have multiple benefits including increased traction and tyre stability but are often heavier or suffer durability issues. The challenge is to create a balance between weight and width that doesn't compromise durability. We have opted to use a 25mm internal width for the Pulse 25 wheelset as it creates a stable platform for tyres up to 2,25” while still being lightweight and durable. The overall weight of 1580g ensures good acceleration and efficiency.

AMP 30 Wheelset

The AMP 30 wheelset has just the right numbers to improve your ride. A durable package that was designed with weight in mind results in a stable yet playful trail wheelset.

Increase Tyre Stability & Traction

SPECS-2.jpg

Unstable tyres are a thing of the past. The wider footprint of the AMP 30 wheelset sets a stable base for your tyres. This helps combat lateral forces that would typically cause tyre roll and burping. Predictability is key when pushing tyres to their limits and having a stable predictable wheelset makes all the difference.

Spoke and Hubs

LYNE-wheels-10.jpg

Our wheels use Triple Butted Pillar PSR TB2016 spokes which are strong and lightweight. Pillar's PSR technology allows spokes to be up to 30% lighter without compromising strength. We have paired these with alloy double square nipples to ensure weight is kept to a minimum.

Lyne JB01 hubs are made by Chosen and are lightweight, serviceable and reliable. The sealed cartridge bearing design means bearings are protected from the elements and are easily replaced when worn. JB01 Hubs are available in boost and non-boost options with replaceable end caps to convert between Thru-Axle and QR.

is 1775g for 29" wheels not on the heavy side?

Not at this price. This is pretty good actually. For comparison, check out other factory builds at similar or higher prices, such as Mavic Crossride or Fulcrum Red Power 29. This is a value wheelset with very nice-looking rims, sensible tough hubs and durable spokes. As others have said, should have good with brass nipples, but then the weight would rise by ~50g (and then 1820g seems a bit more porky).

+1 on offering loose rims!

Eddy Gordo, Jan 25 2018 09:05

Don't think Lyne was quite expecting the demand for loose rims...

Still rate they should offer the Pulse in 32h as well, otherwise its pretty useless on the "loose rim" market with 28 holes.

Indeed, the market is there as people prefer custom built wheels. The hoops seem pretty decent.

I wonder how long before any hoops are available.

While you wait, here is a substitute...

The rims are slightly heavy( but not bad at all), so for the full built wheels to come in at that weight, the hubs must be pretty light.

Great price!

Well done Lyne!!

How’s that amp 30 for some cuddies? U rate they’ll be fine?

I don't think the guys that build and maintain the trail will rate U as fine

Wens ek kan 'n paar AM Classic Wide Lightning rims raakloop. Hulle erens tussen 399 en 410g. 29.3mm internal width, vs Lyne se 495g @ 30mm.

Lyne Pulse 25mm @ 440g, American Classic Race rim, 24mm @ 360g

Steeds, afhangende van prys sou ek 'n Lyne Pulse consider, 25mm is breed genoeg, maar moet 32h wees, nie 28h nie.

You can, but htey're R 2,500 per rim or something STUPID like that.

Wowzers, that's quite steep. I bought my complete AM Classic Wide Lighting wheelset for R3500 second hand.

And aren't they also closed down?

I own about 10 sets of that sweet, sweet cheese. Not a problem, from even the oldest 26er set.

Let's not ruin this awesome product announcement with the smell of cheese, be it American or Swiss...

is 1775g for 29" wheels not on the heavy side?

Hi Mongoose

The thinking behind our wheelsets was to look at the issues that very wide & lightweight wheels are having and try to overcome them with some different thinking. Conventional thinking says remove weight on the outside, because that's rotational weight, but this doesn’t take in to consideration that this is the same area receiving the abuse on impact. We opted for a more robust rim profile with high-end lightweight spokes and hubs to keep weight down because at the end of the day the fastest wheels are the ones that get you to the finish line ;)

Also by using a slightly narrower profile (Pulse) the durability isnt hampered because the walls of the rim don’t have to be excessively thin to keep the weight competitive. In our opinion a 25mm internal profile with a 2,1-2,25" tyre is a good balance of tyre stability, durability and lightweight for Marathon and XC. AMP is best paired with 2,25-2,5" tyres for trail use.

Cheers

Several guys I know have them, and have abused them with pressures set too low, stupid lines and heavy use. No complaints at all. This is on Table Mountain (signal hill / slab etc) tokai & contermans.

Hamstring, Sep 20 2019 02:39

Just got delivery of my Pulse 25 wheelset today   out of stock on website so phoned and chatted to Raun to see if they are going to get stock again, and just like that he says we have stuff laying around and we will quickly build you a set and booooom that was yesterday.

have had my set for quite some time now and they are bullet proof. I am around 100kg and on a HT with dropper and low pressure 20-22psi, love playing on the trails and they are still true and dent free.
