The Trek Project One Experience

Trek's Project One honours the fact that even though we as cyclists are one in our shared passion, we are all also unique. With Project One you can design every detail of your dream ride, then let them bring your vision to life. Trek will create your bike the way they create every Project One: with the skill that only the most-experienced builders and artists can offer.

When you ride your Project One, you’ll be riding something created by hand by a person who wanted to astonish you, who cared deeply about your vision and who was the only one on Earth who loved your bike before you did.

The Perfect Fit

Project One is more than your favourite Trek in your dream colours. It offers a custom experience that starts with a bike fit so you can be sure of the perfect fit out of the box. Your local Project One dealer will do a comprehensive bike fit with you before you order your bike. This will allow you to change stem length, handlebar width, crank arm length seat post length, cassette size and any other part in order for your Project One bike to be perfect. Even the saddle gets matched to your sit-bones and the colour of the bar tape and cables can be customized to your liking! All of this can be done at no extra cost to you as long as the replacement parts are part of the same tier model.

Project 1-49.jpg

Another advantage of the Project One programme is the ability to order any Trek bicycle that is part of the programme, regardless of whether it is imported by Trek South Africa as part of their standard offering.

Bespoke upgrades

Fancy a dropper seat post or carbon wheels? No problem. If you'd like to upgrade a specific part or entire groupset; you'll only be charged the difference in cost between the original and your custom spec, with every cent of the additional charge or deduction in costs clearly showed along the way. Once all of this is done you will immediately be given an indication of the lead-time for Trek's artisans to build your custom Project One Trek for you.

Frameset only option

These days there's really no technical reason not to go for "own brand" components - whether it's wheels, contact points or even tyres the "manufacturer's own" versions have closed the gap with independent brands. But we all have our brand loyalties, so what happens if Trek/Bontrager don't offer the combo you need? Well, whether you want an ENVE cockpit, or Mavic wheels, or literally any other combination you can imagine, we can help. The Speed Concept, Émonda SLR, Domane SLR and Madone SLR are all available as "frameset only" via Project One. So you can choose the colour and customisation you want and Trek will build it into your dream bike with your personal choice of components.

Naturally, they'll make sure everything works perfectly together, and you're still benefitting from their Bike Fitting expertise to ensure the perfect fit. A brilliant way to get a truly unique bike without the worry or hassle of scrabbling around for individual components.

The six premium Project One ICON designs will turn heads wherever you ride. But if these don’t suit your style, there are plenty of other colour options in Project One.

Full Fade

Project One Full Fade Fuel EX.jpg

The Full Fade scheme blends two complementary colours into one magnificent design. The scheme leads with a bold, inviting colour that cleanly fades into a dark, rich shade. Depending on colour choice, the scheme lets riders go big and loud, or dark and stealthy. There’s something for everyone in the Full Fade scheme, with 13 different pre-determined Full Fade colour options from which to choose. The Full Fade paint scheme is available on all Road, Mountain, and Triathlon models available in Project One.

Breakaway

Project One Emonda Breakaway.jpg

Inspired by the bike Alberto Contador rode at last year’s Vuelta a España, the Breakaway scheme features two primary colours that sharply split the frame in half with unique lines and shapes that strike through the Trek logo on the downtube. Customers can choose from an array of colour options with which to stand out from the crowd. All solid colours will be offered in the Breakaway design, except for Onyx Carbon. The Breakaway paint scheme is available on the following Émonda models: Émonda SLR 9, Émonda SLR 8, Émonda SLR 6, Émonda SLR 8 Disc, and Émonda SLR 6 Disc.

It's good to see that big-brands start to see not everyone wants something standard and off-the-shelve.

Schnavel, Dec 07 2018 08:41

Agreed - but you do realise what this is going to cost...

Project One is something Trek have been doing for over 10 years now...nothing new for them.

Sure you pay a premium, however if you don't go too crazy with the options you can pay as little as R10k extra (over a standard bike) for a custom paint job....

Happy that Cannondale isn't doing this. I'd go crazy.

Wanted to see one of the bikehub staff go through the process of ordering a project one and their actual feedback. Come on Trek, give em a freebee!

Yes! Great idea!

I really enjoyed the GCN video when they did this.

Things I would like to see insight into for SA environment:

1. Timing around it - How long from start to end

2. Costing of it vs walk in and take a grey one.

3. How those fitment sessions go, is it easy to book, how indepth do they go? - How easy is it to find a place.

4. Besides pointing at a colour how difficult is it to chose a colour and how close the finish bike comes to what you thought it looked like on the screen.

5. Shipping to SA etc.
